Winter tires/wheels - Feedback please
I went with the 16" when I went with my Goodyears. they were only 2 Revs per miles 18" If I recall correctly. All tires even the same size are not the same. Check out the Tireracks Revs per mile and you can see how close you're tire will be to the stock tires.
the 16" rode better and I did not lose much in handling in normal driving.

If Putting a 16's On You Might Want to Go with 225 x 55 x 16"
! This Will Be a Closer Match to Your Current Tire Size in O.D. and Width

esmarkey, I put on aprox. 8K miles last winter here in WI on my Blizzak WS-60's and I was very impressed.
I agree with you DLVRNIT. That is exactly what I put on my SS for a winter tire/rim size and it works very well. (no I do not have the Brembos up front)

I was able to crawl thru some pretty deep snow and never felt my traction was not there (unless I got my foot into the Turbo of course!)
It will be interesting to see how it does this winter with the stage 1 kit installed. It is certainly a little more touchy on the throttle and it may be an issue with my wide driving it...

I would be careful calling my wife WIDE
I went with the 205/60 16 Generals also-Tireracks recommended size. They worked great and are very reasonable price wise. Unfortunately they don't fit my new SS with Brembos. Too bad ur not close by I'm selling them.
md-HHR I'll see your snow pics and raise you:

Actually with the stock Michelins, it wasn't terrible, I never got stuck with record snows and pushed snow with the air dam many times.
I really want really good snow performance though.

I can't speak to the wheels but I've spent some time at the Bridgestone Winter Driving School testing the Blizzak line of tires. I can tell you that the Blizzak is a hell of a winter tire.
The difference between the Blizzak, which is a true "snow tire" and the typical all-season tire will be like night and day. If you put them on the back as well as the front, you'll have a very safe combination.

Can anyone tell me the 'right' steel rim size for an SS with Brembo's? maybe even a target for the wrecking yard? We got close in this thread, but not quite there... (moves to the edge of his seat)

Absolutely true.
15 years ago I was unhappy with the snow traction on my front-wheel-drive minivan. Blizzaks had just come out and I decided to try them. There was such a huge improvement (over the all-seasons with lots of tread) that I have put them on every vehicle I have owned since (except my Suburban 2500 4WD).
When I bought my HHR (5-speed 2.4L LT) in 06, it was hard to drive smoothly with constant wheelspin and ABS activation. After the Blizzaks it was a different story. I went to a parking lot and TRIED to spin it out. The Blizzaks would allow about 30 degrees of (sideways) spin and then grab. I haven't tried the others (Michelin X-ice, etc) so they may be as good.
