You never know when or why you might need the original parts to go back on the car. Better to be safe than sorry. It is better to have the OEM part than it is to have to quickly try to find that part that I got rid of and can't get it.

The restriction on the factory set up is in the pipe from the air box to the turbo inlet, that pipe has a nice pancake in it as you know.

K&N did round that part out on there aftermarket kit (but kept stock overall diameter), I just did the same thing but the size of the tube is increased to 3" from the air filter to turbo inlet and I'm pulling a little colder air right out of the lower fender behind the fog light. I did drill me out a few more air holes in between the honey comb mesh why I was down there.

Same as always, it seems to be DOA. Buy a K&N filter or their "CAI" then get tuned for it to eliminate any possible CEL's that may (or may NOT) pop up afterwards. Everything else is one off and won't be made unless it's in batches it seems.

I customized an AEM dry filter in my original air box. The lid is remove, it does take in hot air, but it's way better than factor or sealed "restricted" K&N filter insert. It's a tight fit. Will try to get picks on here for it. Also, anyone know of a MAF sensor tube/ aftermarket pipe? If I can find one, I may be able to come up with a prototype thermal resistant acrylic box as a functional cold air intake system for the 2.0L. It will be sealed and it will have a pipe that will fead into the fender or bumper for fresh cold air. Any thought on this and I will have a production model come out by next spring if everything goes good.

If you want one like the Colbalt SS though.... I think this might work:
