There's a 'safety' feature, a table that we can't see, on the autos...
Hmm. First I've heard of this. The stock tune has less safety features than the GMTU tune. I'd be willing to have a try at it if I can lay my hands on the 3 bars. How easy is it to swap 'em in/out?

Easy, if you use these, for plug-n-play...

I really don't know of any other guys with autos, that have tried it...

$102 for just the adapters. Near $150 when you throw in the sensors. That's alot of dough to drop when I can just run the GMTU settings (recalibrated) on my stock 2.5 bars if I want to.

I agree there is some sort of a tune in there already.
Any tune other than the gm tune installed by gm
Will void your power train warranty by the way.

Just beware of fuel trim issues, at WOT?..

If I have time, I'll copy the ethanol calibration settings from my current tune to my GMTU 2.5bar clone and run a log.

Edit: I ran it. Trim averages were within about 2%. Did not see any wild swings at WOT in full boost. '08 is different maybe?

overlay of a superchips tuner with the stage 1 kit....

I have read all the posts and I still didn't see an answer to this question. I have a 2009 SS with the auto. I run a K&N air filter upgrade with the Superchips 2950 tuner. I am happy with this tuner it makes a big improvement over stock and does get better gas mileage with a light foot.

I was thinking about adding the stage 1 kit but don't know if it would be worth it already having this tuner. Can I also run the tuner after the stage 1 is installed and would there be a benefit to running both??
I just ordered the brembo front upgrade because I am having a warping issue now and brake fade when playing hard. I only have 22k miles on it now.

I have also had some boost issues with this tuner on really cold days with part throttle but its not an issue for me.
The boost would spool up to say 15 psi under part throttle on a cold start and the light would come on and drop to about 3 psi. Turning off the engine and restarting clears that. I assume that the computer sees an overboost condition or something and jumps to limp mode.
This only happens with the tune in it. Don't know if that helps anyone.

First off, welcome to the HHR network!

You sound like you have done your homework and used the search button before asking these questions....THANK YOU!

As far as I know, you cannot install the new map sensors(included in gm kit) without tuning for them. Above all, going from a Superchips tune to the gm tune would be expensive and you may be dissappointed with the little difference between the two.

Well I got my GMTU installed. Been road testing it since this morning, and I have to say I'm impressed. Way more boost. Before at moderate accel I would get 5 psi and to the floor I'd get 10psi. Now I get 15 moderate and 22 then I floor it. Havnt had any issues yet. It's only been a day so only time will tell but as far as power goes its awsome
