Either you use book time or you don't. Picking and choosing is unfair to the customer.

And they raised their suggested install time to a whopping 1.2 hours. I also have been told that those times were done on a Solstice and they are doing a time study on the HHR next week. So we shall see.

Really not trying to get in a pissing match with you, not my intention at all. But please put your self in the customers prospective for a minute. Customer spends roughly $600 and is told it takes about an hour to install. Dealer wants 3 hours to do the install. Customer only sees that 2 parts of GM want a lot more money than they were led to believe.
Yes, I know the dealer is independent but to most people you are all part of GM.
I'll let it go at that. (Your overall help here is very much appreciated and for that I say thank-you)

I can't speak for other shops but I believe the majority follow these rules. Everything has a pre-agreed upon price before repairs begin. The agreement is between the shop and the customer as to the price. I know others have stated they were charged by time spent on THIS install, but that is not the way most shops work.
