I can't speak for other shops but I believe the majority follow these rules. Everything has a pre-agreed upon price before repairs begin. The agreement is between the shop and the customer as to the price. I know others have stated they were charged by time spent on THIS install, but that is not the way most shops work.

95% of all service repairs have a predetermined labor time and you charge that no matter if the tech can beat that time or takes longer. But a tech that takes longer won't be employed long if it is a continual occurance.

As does the stage tune upgrade. That advised time is 1 hour. I'm sure once your tech has done a few he will get the time down.

Either you use book time or you don't. Picking and choosing is unfair to the customer.

No, I haven't done one personally and yes I understand the instructions are fuzzy at best but please explain to me how that is the customers fault?

I never said it was the customers fault. But the price we charge for it is the price we charge. If the customer doesn't want to do it. No hard feelings.

And they raised their suggested install time to a whopping 1.2 hours. I also have been told that those times were done on a Solstice and they are doing a time study on the HHR next week. So we shall see.

Seems the majority of people getting the stage kit have auto's.

Anybody done it with a stick? If so is it noticeable?

Really not trying to get in a pissing match with you, not my intention at all. But please put your self in the customers prospective for a minute. Customer spends roughly $600 and is told it takes about an hour to install. Dealer wants 3 hours to do the install. Customer only sees that 2 parts of GM want a lot more money than they were led to believe.

Yes, I know the dealer is independent but to most people you are all part of GM.

I'll let it go at that. (Your overall help here is very much appreciated and for that I say thank-you)

I was quoted 1 hour at $135 per hour. I get an employee discount at this dealer because my ma works there so I paid 93. It took 5 hours the first try and then when the CEL came on they took it back because they forgot to flash the ecm. It took them another couple hours to get that all squared away so they spent no less than 6-7 hours and I paid for 1. It was agreed upon before the install and therefor they had to honor it. Not all dealers are created equal. So the moral of the story is make the dealer commit to there quote and put it in writing, then you hold them to it no matter how long it takes.
