2.2 Oil catch can, more of cleaning up then performance!

Yup membrane, post 46. But I got what he meant now. Just some material to catch the vapors.

The ebay version I found which is the exact same thing is $40. As soon as I get it which should be tomorrow or the next day I will make sure it's a good one before I post the link.

But you are able to add a little stainless steel mesh in the baffling which can be unscrewed. They did it in that forum I posted the link to.

And yeah, seems like they have a big oil consumption problem.

My 2.2 runs fine without a filter of any kind in it., that is required for the 2.0 turbo setups

Just took the catch can out , drained 5 ozs of mostly water out of it, Teflon taped the threads in the fittings threads and the drain plug threads. Checked the throttle body and it’s dry and clean. This after a trip to Cape Cod approximately 780 klms there another 600 klms driving around there and 780 klms home. So I’d say it’s working as planned

I just got a text from your engine. It says it will do it's durndest to get to 500,000 klms(and beyond!!)

Sorry it took so long to reply to this, I have been very busy lately.

I attempted to install the catch can I purchased but noticed the aluminum gets quite hot! It acts like a heat sink absorbing all the heat from the engine compartment.

Did you have this problem, and can this cause a fire to start in your aluminum can full of oil.

I decided not to install it because of the potential fire risk???

If you're really concerned, you could get more hose and locate the can out in the area in front of the radiator. The cooler air out there would help condense the air, and the liquids would drop out easier.

But I would say the fire risk in the engine compartment is next to nothing. It's inside a can, and the vast majority of liquid is water. Even if it were pure engine oil, the flashpoint is over 400* F.

I moved mine to the engine lift bracket on the front of the passengers side of the engine.
It doesn’t get hot at all, I always double check the drain plug bolt , every fuel stop , never felt all that warm at all.
Where did you mount yours.
