Radio problem (not speakers!)

I think my late wife is coming back to haunt me! Don't get me wrong, she is/was the love of my life but we always had different tastes in music. It seems my 2008 HHR 2LT 2.4 with single disc CD, Pioneer premium system and no satellite radio has started changing stations on its own.
I will be going down the road and all of a sudden it starts changing stations as though its doing a search and seek. After a minute or so it will settle down and I can put it back to where I want it.

I've done a search and found one or two threads that said there may be a short in the radio station control buttons on the steering wheel but nothing about how to diagnose and fix or if it is an easy fix.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Or disconnect the steering wheel buttons for a week or so to confirm if they are the issue or not, then either replace the steering wheel control buttons or the radio head unit if it continues the symptoms with them disconnected.

Follow the directions to remove the steering wheel air bag and steering wheel, I believe there's a sticky on here in the search box
