As long as you have RPO Code UE1 and don't have U1C you can add the module below. RPO Code list is located in the glove box.

XM Radio Upgrade Kit. Part Number: 17800594

I just got a 2009 HHR 2LT and want to add XM radio to it. I have installed one in my 2005 Trailbalzer that I got on ebay with no problems. I want to install the same kit in this HHR and want to know if it will work. The kit says it will work with or without OnStar. I emailed the seller(whom I purchased my trailblazer kit from) and they said that it will not work UNLESS you have OnStar. I DO NOT have OnStar so I am not sure. I dont care to have the antenna in the back of the roof, I can just hide the antenna wire and run it to the top of the roof. So I want to know if the plug and play kit will work with my HHR without OnStar. I also have the correct radio for this to work. THe RPO Code is UE0 as listed in my glove box. Someone please give me a clear answer if you can. Here is the link for the ebay auction.

Sorry it won't work. You must have OnStar.

Look for the RPO codes in the glove box, its a label pasted in there, kinda hard to read so grab a flashlight.

?????? Maybe I missed something because I would've thought it would already be there (as far as the wiring is concerned) and all you would need to do is activate it. I have a 2009 2LT as well and it came with Onstar (I bought it brand new in 2009 and I still have it activated). From what I remember the 2LT is already Onstar ready (at least it seems they were for 2009 and a year came standard with them) so if you bought it used, all that needs to happen is for you to pay the fee and activate it. Anybody want to jump in on this cause if I'm off base, I apologize in advance. I would think again that the wiring is already in place. For example, if I were to trade mine in for an SS, the Onstar activation might run out by the time someone else bought mine but the wiring would still be there.

The wiring (and module) is probably not there – GM, as well as all manufactures, are trying to save weight and thus increase gas mileage. So nothing extra is added to vehicles anymore.

It is possible Kevin’s vehicle was a fleet or rental vehicle and thus was not equipped as such. My base level 2009 LS came with both XM and OnStar – both of which I have switched off.

Also see:
https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/show...9&postcount=11
for that "UE0" RPO code.

Clearly states: "UE0 Communication System - Vehicle, G.P.S. - Not Installed"
