Why not have a minimum posts requirement?

We have an entry now from a member with less than 10 posts which appears to be photochopped, not against and stated rules btw, and hasn't really posted since making the entry.

A recent winner, has very few posts and hasn'r posted much, if at all, since winning.

I think this would be a nice way to encourage entries from people who are at least kinda active. I don't think it should be much, maybe even conbine with length of time as a member.

Maybe, 30 days & 30 posts?

Whatcha all think?

To the mods: If you think this is the wrong place for this post, please move it. But I asked that you please don't make it disappear like others have. We, the members, should be allowed to discuss things like this.

Nope...but there should be! It kinda gives the established members here a bad taste in their mouth when someone comes here as a newbie with just a few posts, wins the featured submission, then rarely if ever posts again, just like Mike said.

Not necessary to be a premium member for entering, every established member should qualify!

***Comments being said not as a moderator but as a long standing member of this community:

It really upsets me that members would want to put stipulations on a contest that has no prize other than being recognized by fellow members. The members are the people who select the Featured HHR Winner, not the submitter. If a new member follows the submission rules and obtains the votes to win then who the **** cares. Reminds me of when I first joined here and a member attacked me as being a troll stating that I probably didn't even have an HHR. Nice way to welcome newbies

Now if there is a valid reason that a submission should not be accepted then by all means please contact the moderators to review but posting negative comments in someone's submission thread is just rude. Please excuse the attitude but we are all adults and my tooth hurts.

But what does it mean to be a member here? Does just joining and not contributing or participating make you a member?

Leave the contest out for a minute.............think of how many people have joined this forum and have never participated or contributed in any way, are they really members other than just a statistic?

On our local club forum, which is also free to join, we have over 70 people who have joined. But there is only a small number that actually contribute or have ever attended any of our functions. Those who have, we consider members. Nothing is official, it's just kinda taken for granted that you have to at least show a desire to be a part of things to be considered a member. Our motto is "No dues, just cruise!" so even in that there is an implied participation.

As we all know, this is one of the more restrictive forums on-line for language and content. I'm not saying that is a bad thing, though sometimes I think we error on the side of caution too much for some content and topics. But if we are like that in other areas, then why throw away that conservativeness in the one area where members who are active and have become a part of this community can show off what they are so proud of and have shared with us all of the joys they have experienced with their HHR.

I think there should at least be a minimum length of membership and number of posts to take part in the Featured HHR because of that great sense of community we have here and that I cherish so much. Owning our two HHRs have changed our lives so much for the better. And it's not just because of the car, it's more because of the community. Hell, we drove 11 hours to a g2g without either of our HHRs because they were both being worked on. It was about the PEOPLE!

I don't think its asking too much for someone to have been here for 30 days and to have made 30 posts. 30&30 doesn't take much and would at lest make someone show some interest in being a part of our great community.

I'll now get off my soapbox!

Speaking as a Moderator:

From here on out, I will be deleting any derogatory statements posted in a "Featured" submissions thread. If you have a problem with the submission then you need to do what's allowed and that is hit the Name: report.gif
Views: 126
Size: 1.0 KB and report it. This report button/triangle (Name: report.gif
Views: 126
Size: 1.0 KB) is located under every users name that posts in a thread.

If you don't want to use the Name: report.gif
Views: 126
Size: 1.0 KB then you can always convey your thoughts through PM. If neither of those works then keep your thoughts to yourself.

Now that I re-read this post there is not enough rant here. So here I go.

2 months after I joined this forum I was going to enter the Featured HHR contest. This was well before I became a mod. I had 10 pictures of my HHR, but they were all done by a professional, not me, and a lot of them contained additions such as blended/faded-in enterior pics around the edge of the pictures. One of them can be seen in my Profile. The license tag was also photoshopped to display my sons name instead of the Texas tag. I felt that alone would begin a flaming that I just didn't care to deal with, let alone the fact that I was a NOOB. Well looks like I was correct on the flaming I would have gotten. I am so ******* glad I never entered.

The self satisfaction that the winner obtains is awesome, but **** the reward is just month long display of little picture on the front page. YOU, the members, get to select the winner so if you don't want to vote for someone then don't vote for them. If you feel a HHR submitted doesn't qualify then REPORT IT, but don't post any more negative comments in a submissions thread. ******* rant over.

I see that once again any negative comments will be censored! What happened to being allowed to express an opinion. If you don't want comments, then don't post or enter.

Sometimes we can't say "BOO!" around here without a mod or someone else going off the deep end!

I agree with you, Mike. Should be some kind of requirement......what, I cannot say. But using your example of post counts.....

One of the other forums to which I belong, does have this requirement. But there has been some B******g there also regarding some members who just post "I agree", or use one of the "smileys" ONLY, in each of his/her posts. Obviously, this just raises the post count number. Who makes the decision of what is allowed as a post.....then it will require constant monitoring.

But hey, you know, when winning "HHR of the Month" nothing is in it except a little bragging right. Why such a big fuss?????

You could just let members express what is right, by the voting count. But that "hurts" also.

It seems to me like the only ones who are making a big deal about this are the ones who disagree.

All I did was make a suggestion.

A good example is march's feature..."The Wife's" hot flamed HHR. 13 posts, never to be heard from again. How does that make someone feel that's been here and contributed for years & submits, only to be up against one like hers?
