This isn't a pet peeve but a feature I would like to have on the HHR.

My Daughter has a 2007 Suzuki SX4 and it has a proximity key, which means that the key fob just has to be in your pocket and you can unlock the doors and start the car as long as the key is on you. It is very nice to just walk up push a small button on the door handle, then get in and go. Sure, it has no auto start feature but this is nice.

Note: This is the only feature I like on the Suzuki.

I don't like the way the hood meets the fenders, too much of a gap

Many of these peeves can be fairly easily corrected (I know because I did). Door knobs can be replaced and cut down. Radio antenna can be removed from the roof. An amplified windshield one works great (better than the factory one), is hardly noticible, and less than 20 bucks. Plus, it plugs right into any aftemarket head unit without the stupid adapter. I added a cage used on bicycles under the dashboard by the drivers door. Fits a 16 ounce soda bottle. Windshield height does affect the view (seeing traffic lights) but HHR Boutique sells a nice inexpensive window prism that fixes that.

That said, the interior plastic panals are rather cheap. 2 days after my 3 year warranty, the drivers side armrest developed a nice crack in it. My dealer is trying to see if they can cover it, but technically it is past the date.

New map light (cheap)

For all of us complaining about the poor interior lighting, here is a quick fix that costs less than 4 bucks. I got a pack of 3 of these Sick N Click lights for 10 bucks, used a few small pieces of 1/4 and 1/8 masonite, some velcro, and this is what I got.

Several points, here. First, the light comes off and can be attached under the hood (another piece of velcro there) for car shows or night time repairs. Second, I attached the masonite bracket to the plastic sunroof cover panal so that I can reverse it when I want to close the panal.

Also, since the light is removable, you can use it as a flashlight or for reading.
