kill switch

I have a 2010 HHR and the key is stuck in the ignition lock cylinder in the on mode. So has anyone ever wired in a kill switch of some kind without cutting into the factory wire harness back by the battery before?

Yes I know about the recall and its just been about a month and kinda getting tired of walking around my HHR and not being able to enjoy driving it. The dealer said it might be another month and a half yet... So thats why I was going to wire in a kill switch.

I used one of these and a short battery cable between it and the ground screw in the battery bay.

The key stuck in the iginition switch is different from the recall. There was a bullitin on that. It happened to mine not too long after I got it and they replaced just the lock cylinder. Do a search on it. There is a way to release the switch from under the key assembly on the steering column.

Yeah there is a small square cover under the ignition, stick something in there and push the release while turning the key. In my case that didn't work so I just pulled the fuel pump relay in the underhood fuse box.

I have had my key stuck in the ig. switch about a dozen times I have found that if I pressed the brake pedal and forced the steering wheel to turn with a little pressure I could remove the key.

My point was : the recall will fix it, whether or not that's the reason for the recall.
