Soon to be new HHR owner. Need pricing advice
Hi guys,
I plan to be a new HHR owner within the week and I need help with pricing for the new car. I thought about getting a used car but after test driving a couple used HHRs, I think new is the best route for me.
I'm planning on buying a 2011 HHR 2LT with roof rails, rearview camera, and an auto transmission. MSRP is $24,165. Invoice stated at Edmunds.com is $22,929.
The dealership wants to sell me the HHR to me for $18,923 which includes the $4000 manufacture to dealer incentive. It looks like they're offering me the invoice price. How low can I go below invoice that is reasonable? Edmunds TMV is $19,783. I think that figure already has the incentive built into the price.
Thanks a ton guys!

Welcome to the forum Mark! Being that you are armed with the invoice price(Edmunds is usually pretty close at least), you need to negotiate from that price, not down from the sticker price. There is a dealer hold back built into the invoice price along with assorted advertising and marketing allowances given to the dealer by Chevrolet, so start negotiating from the invoice price. By taking the incentive off of the sticker, the dealer is just making you think you're saving money while in reality they are just dropping down to what they would like to get out of the vehicle.
Good luck, and remember that walking away from the dealer's best offer is a great way to get them to come around to your price. With the end of HHR production it is becoming a buyers market as dealers try to move the 2011 models of everything, especially discontinued ones.

WELCOME to the site glad to hear that you like them too.
843 is right, get down to their best price, then walk, like you just don't care,if you are convincing you will save money,or at least get the factory splash guards installed.

As mentioned above; check out Edmunds. They're great at showing you list, invoice, and what people are paying on average. If you're trading a car in for it, also see what they list as trade value for your car; they're the most accurate source for the 'real' value of a used vehicles. Kelly Blue Book is popular with dealers because they list trade values very low....which is to the dealers advantage (Kelly Black Book is better). Also be sure to go online and see what offers (rebates/financing) are available in your area. Good luck shopping!
[QUOTE=molecule;563214]Mark ; Just to let you know here in Calliban the local dealer has 2 new 2011 LT's in the paper List price at 24,175 . Sale price 17,995 .
But it's a long drive .

Does the sale price include the manufacturer to dealer incentive already? I noticed a lot of dealerships include that when they offer and ePrice on their websites or while negotiating. If now, I might be willing to fly out there and road trip it back home.
Would submitting a counter offer of $5000 below invoice would be ridiculous and they'll dismiss me? I mean, it is the last month they're producing this vehicle and I can always buy a nice Chevy Cruze Eco for $19000 without incentives. So with incentives and before taxes and doc fees, the price would be $12929.
Thanks again for the advice guys.
