Rear Rotors

Hi All,

Anyone else notice the rear rotors don't seem to get as smooth and shiny as the front ones? On my SS the front rotors look exactly as would be expected, but the rear ones look like they haven't been driven for a while, there's little bits of rust like the vehicle had been sitting for a few weeks or just after a wash. I've even touched the rear rotors after having driven for a bit and they are warm but still touchable. Anyone else experience the same thing?

The only thing I could think of in a "common sense" approach, is that the front brakes do most of the stopping on the vehicle as compared to the rears. As far as the rust spots, I haven't really noticed much on mine except after a wash, or out in a storm, etc., and they should "wipe clean", after the brakes are used a few times. If you have more of a concern, have your dealer check it out for proper brake operation. And one final suggestion, you should under no circumstances touch any part or parts that get as hot as the brakes do, etc., a very easy way to get an injury.

As with Frt rotors and rear drums, your rear rotors only use a percentage of the breaking compared to the fronts.

I did notice this as well, especially when I had the rotors off for the recent painting project. The rear rotors look a lot more "grainy" for lack of a better description.

I agree with the braking percentage theory as well. This appearance could also be due to the casting process used with the two different shapes, or even with two seperate suppliers for these individual parts. There could be a significant difference in the cast iron properties of the two parts...

If you want to shine 'em up nice, just drive around with the E-brake on for a while... JUST KIDDING!! :)
