Adding radio buttons on steering wheel
Yep. you're right. I was trying to put it in backwards. Now that I see where the blue retainer goes, I try again this morning. By the way, how do you get the plug to separate? Hopefully, that is all it was. I keep everyone updated.
This is better than a morning soap opera on TV. "And now, we continue with the story of a small town in Texas, who is missing their idiot . . ."

OK, found my problem. Obviously, it was my fault, as small plastic parts fell from the clock spring when the steering wheel came off. I tore one ribbon off and lost a small clip that held it on. I will have to buy another unit, complete. I hope that I can get it from Parts Direct. I'll call them later. Here is a photo of the damage.
anybody who has done this mod that still have there stock switches please contact me i would like to know about if you would like to donate switches to me im working on a mod and right now i need to get me a stock switch or 2 as for details all im going to say is that it will look good when done
I would like to thank everyone on here for all the great posts..!!
I just finished doing the upgrade the "easy way"..!
I was going to order the module from GM but found a whole leather wheel from Ebay for a great price..$40.00 plus $25.00 shipping.
The only white knuckle part was pulling the old wheel off and figuring out that I had to disconnect the airbag wires right at the bag not the clock spring.
I couldn't find the GM special tool so I had to improvise with a gear puller that I had, there were a few beads of sweat on my forehead as I had to apply a lot more torque to the puller than I thought.....the resulting bang was a tense moment but all was good the wheel popped right off.
Now that I have done this once, with the right tools it would be a 15 min job including the disconnecting and reconnecting of the battery and a 5 min wait to drain voltage....just in case..!!
The best part is that it WORKS..!!
I'm now scrounging parts to convert the rest of my interior to leather and add do the rear seat mod. ( I have a panel)
Thanks Again
