Any HVAC techs in the house?

If there are i have a question. I have a carrier heat pump. The air conditioner had been shutting down and the blower wont run until main power goin to the unit has been cycled. After that the ac or heat will work just fine. Any ideas? The unit is only about 4 years old and the internals are mostly circuit boards so im a little out of my element. Its not quite the same as repairing a blown amp or a computer.

If it's only 4 years old it's probably still under warranty. Call a technician.

Sorry, my area of expertise is drawing up the plans for HVAC systems, not fixing them

Good luck, though

I would on small appliances so its not exactly the same but it could be as simple as a thermal cut out or as complex as a sealed system issue. If the compressor is overly hot its probably in the sealed system and should be under warranty.

din ding ding, tell 'em what hes won bob... it was a bad thermal cutout, and a weak internal circuit breaker on the 24v side. no warranty so i didnt really want to call someone in and spend a fortune to do it. I just poked around with my fluke for a few until i found it. it was a dual problem. on the one hand the cb was malfunctioning and shutting down the 24v input so the thermo wasnt getting the commands to the unit. shutting down the main power was resetting the 24v link, and allowing it to go through. the thermal was overheating and causing a system shutdown, just like on that crappy punch amp i used to have so the 240 reset was also resetting the thermal until the next time it went out. The installers were nice enough to leave a decent schematic on the inside of the ac cover though.
