A long time fav for burgers (I always grill on charcoal!!):
Get some Lipton's dry Onion Soup mix. Mix it into the meat and let stand refrigerated for at least 1/2 hr. Make into patties; grill; baste w/ BBQ sauce of choice, if desired. Enjoy!!
Kentucky Fried Apple Pies
(like my grandmaw made)
bag of cooking apples
brown sugar
cinnamon
allspice
2 cans large biscuits
flour
oil or shortening (shortening will make them crispier but will leave a waxy texture after they have set for an hour or so)
your can either dry the apples out or use dried apples in place, likewise you can make your own dough, however if you dont want to wait that long this way is the fastest.
core and slice your apples and place in a large pot. run just enough water to cover. place pot on stove and set to simmer (you dont want to boil them).
as the apples cook down, you will have extra water, go ahead and strain it off, leaving the apples still barely covered. as the apples start to mush add 1 cup of brown sugar. the rest of the ingredients vary to individual tastes. add cinnamon to your taste. you can delete the allspice if you'd like. you basically cook down the apples to the point where they are not quite cooked apples not quite applesauce, somewhere in between. (real good description i know)
strain the excess juice from your apple mixture and set the mixture to the side, you can keep and drink the juice as cider or poor it down the drain.
now comes the messy part. flour your counter, (or whatever you will be using to roll the biscuits out) take one biscuit and flatten it out into a large circle (the flour keeps it from sticking)
take your biscuit circle and place a dallop of the apple mix into it, fold it over and pinch it off, like a fritter or perogi.(sp)
repeat until you either have no biscuits or no mix left.
place skillet on stove and add oil or shortening
once oil is hot add your pie carefully and fry on both side until a nice golden brown (be careful as biscuit dough fries very quickly)
let cool a sec and enjoy. You can cook them in butter but i dont recommend it as butter has a tendency to scorch very quickly and you would need a considerable amount as the dough soaks up the liquid quite readily. I dont know what the calorie, fat or any other count is for this, but as good as it is, it cant be healthy lol
