I just got quoted $460 to replace the right front hub assembly on my 2009 HHR LS with 111,460 miles.

That seems really high priced. Any recommendations for a dealer/shop in Atlanta, Georgia or Orlando, Florida. If the weather was better and I had the work space I would probably have done it myself.

Can't recommend a shop for you, but the one time I had a hub replaced by the dealer due to time constraints on my part, the bill came to $207.00

So $460 is a bit steep, you might just want to grab your yellow pages, or Google some shops to call around for pricing.

wow, that's crazy! Hubs are super easy, really just time. I suggest doing a bit of research, and doing it yourself if you can. The only real special tool needed is an axel nut socket, and they can be found cheap, if you know where to look. (ie flea markets, Harbor frieght, and Hauto Zone will "rent" them but put a hold on you Credit card)

I bet if you took that 460 bucks you got quoted, you could get a Haynes repair manual, a new hub assembly, an axle nut socket, and still have the cash reserve for a few dances at the Spearmint Rhino if you played your cards right. If your not the type to get icky grease on your hands, pay it, but if you can deal with a little dirt..... Handle it yourself and save the money for the girls at the Rhino!

If you bought the hub from GM, the cost about $360 + labor. If you buy the hub on eBay you will find them for $80-$360.

I personally don't have a problem with "made in China" $80 hubs, especially since you will pay 3 times the price for re-packaged hubs with "printed in USA" on the box.

$460.00 should get you both hubs and brake discs and pads and change!!

I agree. I have no idea how they are coming up with that price. I have done hubs on cars in the past and it is not a real difficult job. My guess is they are trying to charge me list price on an OEM Chevrolet hub plus labor and shop costs. Like others have said. I would be happy with the $90 aftermarket one. I figured $200 is more than fair to get one hub replaced. Thanks.

this is one of the easiest replacements there is to do on a HHR
i ordered the Timken and have over 64000 miles on the new ones w ABS brakes w no issues at all and made in the USA
really easy to do
remove wheel
remove front caliper to remove rotor
unplug abs plug
3 bolts on back of bearing
whole bearing pops off from back
put on new bearing
bolt back on
plug in abs
replace rotor
replace caliper
replace wheel
all done
it is pretty much that easy
never done it before and i was done w both front in less than 2 hours
i may have missed a step and i apologize
i did this back in early 07

Thanks everyone.

I tried stopping by a Pep Boys today just to see what they would price it at.

They wanted $372.00 They were upcharging their own part for install plus wanted 1.2 hours/wheel for labor. This was only for one wheel. part was like $190 + $25 shop costs + another $20 something dollars they were trying to sell me an extended warranty + labor.

What a rip-off. I questioned them on the part upcharge. They said it was because they had to "certify" the part if they installed it. What a crock. The manufacturer will warranty the part against defects.

Like I said, I would do myself but do not have a place to work on it now or in the near future.

and on to the next mech shop to get still another estimate, I changed mine in the driveway , I wish I could come on over to get the fixed for you, but I'm 800 miles north of you
