Airbag light and seat swap
I am so confused now!
If the connectors are the same, you should check the wire colors to make sure they line up.
You can get seat belt assemblies from GM (online) for around $100 it takes a few screws. No computer.
A good scan tool can read the airbag faults, there are airbag specialists. My personal experience with GM shops and air bags is really bad, they don't have a clue about the system. They only know how to R&R parts. ABS Airbag SRS Reset OBD2 Code Scanner Diagnostic Scan Tool Foxwell NT630 Pro | eBay
Theoretically replace the seats is plug n play, if the part numbers are the same.
I replaced the SDM, the roll over sensor, 2 side curtain airbags and 2 seat belt assemblies. The only thing needed was to have the BCM and the SDM matched up. Unfortunately, the tech was an idiot and had call Tech support to even connect to the SDM.
Are you sure that wasn't the seat belt light, not the airbag light?

When I started the engine, the light came on, but the DIC did not give any message, the airbag light started flashing, maybe 6 times or so, and went off and stayed off. No message on the DIC.
Umm, yes I'm sure since the icon for the airbag is a big balloon popping out

I have no idea what that module is called located under the seat, but swapping my existing 2006 sensor into the 2009 seats made everything work perfectly.
I didn't even have to remove the seat to try it. I was able to reach in from the front, unplug the 2009 module, plug in the 2006 module and fired it up. I hope to be able to pull the seat this weekend, remove the 2009 from the bracket and mount the 2006 permanently. They are sort of riveted on, so I had to drill these out on the 2006 seat, and will use screws to remount. Not the greatest pic, but you can see the 2006 module dangling and the 2009 module mounted to the bottom of the seat.
I think that you can get it done. You still have your original seat and if switching only the module did not work I was prepared to remove everything from my original 2006 seat and install it all into the 2009.
Swapping only the module has been a total success for me. The only issue is that the seat belt light does not come on if someone is sitting in the passenger seat. We always use seat belts, so we really don't need the reminder.
This did have me nervous at first, because I thought that it might affect the passenger airbag. Years ago, I covered over the passenger air bag lights with some velcro so that I could hang my Ipod. So I didn't even remember it existed until I pulled out the owners manual. I pried off the velcro and confirmed that the off light is on when no one is in the seat, and it switches to airbag on when someone sits down. The airbag light in the DIC, also flashes a couple times when the key is first switched on, and the manual states that this is the expected/normal operation.

drilling out the rivets

and since I had the camera handy, the kicker amp under the seat

with a piece of plastic insulating it from the heater air duct.

would all this still work if you had the basic manual cloth seats and swapped to the SS seats? Will the powered options still fit on a manual seat bracket? What would happen if you want to slide the seat back and forth? Or are the SS seats still manually operated to do that?
Bracket wise everything fits across all models. The seat contains the power module, the brackets fit across all models. You would have to get 12v / ground to the seats to use power version.
The power version (SS or standard) only slides with the motors. All passenger seats are manual.
