Problems/Service/RepairsIf you have a problem with your HHR, want a tip on repairing or performing a particular service to you HHR here is the place to post!
I use s jack and a pry bar to relieve tension on the belt, take it off the harmonic balancer, zip the bolt out with air wrench , pull the pulley and pop out the seal.
Give the area a wipe, put in the new seal, then the balancer, thread the new crank bolt in fully by hand, then put the belt back on and let down the jack.
I then used that pry bay to hold the pulpy from turning, torqued the bolt to 75 ft lbs, then tighten the bolt 125 degrees.
The longest part is pulling off the plastic shields but I use my 1/4 impact driver and a 7 mm socket only to remove the screws, and trim pliers for the push pins.
Sorry Blue. I can't see this as a 10 minute repair. I mean you never said jacking the car up and taking off the wheel and supporting the car
By the way where did you place the pry bar to hold the pulley as you torque turned the pulley bolt ?
I already had the HHR up on 4 jack stands to check and adjust rear brakes and rotate the tires and drain the oil , if I add that in the hmm another 30 minutes .
I used a 21 mm impact socket on the crank bolt.
I used the pry bar to push up here at the part were the pink areo points
Serpentine belt was easy. Buy Harbor Freight Serpentine belt tool, cut it to 11" length.
Remove plastic wheel well insert covers and its a fast job.
I replaced my Alternator and Serpentine belt without removing anything but the wheel well plastic inserts.
See youtube videos but watch a few as many make it harder than it is. The Alternator wiggles in and out with out a problem, the bottom bollt of the three bolt alternator system i had to get from underneath though as i did this job in my driveway.
The 2 bolt clamp above water hose is simply an engine hoist area for dealer ETC.
