If it’s not so nice, it might still be worth fixing if you can do it on the cheap yourself, but you probably need to assume r&r for the head and valves in addition to the timing chains. It’s the kind of project a lot of people plan on without actually getting around to doing. If the body and/or the interior are the same color, that’s points in favor of a parts car, but you shouldn’t need that if the 2.2 is nice.

Good luck!
Just bought the 2007 2.2 LS, it is super nice. 90 000 kilo. Was treated every year against rust (although there is very slight rust on the bottom inside door). 2 set of tires winter and summer with lots of treads. Brand new battery and oil has been changed recently. I think I can expect minimal mecanical problems for the next 100 000 kilo. The car might pay itself. I got it for $3500 CAD.

Now at that mileage, change the timing chain and balance shaft chain and spark plugs.

preventative maintenance is a lot better than damage to the engine.

90,000 kilometers(56,000 miles). Sounds like a good deal!

Ok, you can wait till it’s at 100,000 miles, to change the chains and plugs.

Great deal

One question. Is it possible to swap the dead 2.4L engine for a 2.2L engine? I see 2.2L engines for sale for about $900 CAD. I think it's not that expensive considering I would have two HHR.

The 2.2 2007 did not have VVT , the 2.4 did have VVT , so no that swap is a no go!
