Thank you
Broken battery cage would mean getting a new remote fob, right? Does a dealer have to do that so it can be programmed to my car?
I'll do a search for both guides. Thanks.
You can solder the battery cage, if your brake lights are working, is there a CEL light on? My cruise control stopped working when I had a CEL problem

There's no CEL (am I understanding correctly, check engine light?) right now to go along with the cruise control refusing to work. Since I have to have those two things done by a dealer and I have the option to get some auto repair work done free of charge (paid by a grant), I'll probably just ask the dealer to help me even though dealers are more expensive. I've got to get my car back on the road so messing around with DIY solutions that I'm not really good at implementing seems fruitless.
I really do appreciate your time in sending me all of this information! Thank you!

You do not have to go to a dealer for programming.
Dorman has a fob and programming module kit. The fob is less than perfect, but the module will program the vehicle to accept OEM fobs also.
A locksmith should be able to do the job also.

If you you can figure out how to get the tip of a small screwdriver or a similarly-shaped object near red hot you can do the re-solder job. Usually, no additional solder is needed. Some drug users have little torches. Obviously this service will cost you a buck or two.
