Letter from GM for ignition lock cylinder
Our key got stuck in our '09 LS (manual transmission) w/ 50,000 miles on her last night...my wife came home from work, couldn't turn off the car. We drove to the nearby Chevrolet dealer where they kept the car inside all night after killing it since it is a manaul transmission.
Got a call at 10 a.m. this morning that the car was repaired, it was an ignition lock cylinder & covered under a recall by Chevrolet! NO CHARGE! GREAT SERVICE & back on the road in a little over 12 hours!!

ignition cylinder lock housing
went to chevy dealer, had them build new cylinder lock for my old key, I installed it and after 2 or 3 turns to to test it, it immediately bound up. I need to take the housing off to get the cylinder out anybody do this before?
Our 2009 HHR has experienced this twice; however only with my wife and not myself. I began to question exactly what was happening until I saw this thread. While we have not gotten a letter the symptoms sound exactly the same. I guess the next step it to take it in to a dealer before it happens again. I hope someone knowledgeable will take the time to look up the TSB or Recall and find a solution. Thanks for this thread!!
I have an 06 (376000 miles) and I love it. But I have the same issue, key is out, but chime still dings like the key is in??? Anyone else but you and I have this issue? AND...because it thinks the key is in, it will not let me "remote start" my HHR....bummer
I had it done on my 08 last Thursday at the Chevy dealership at no charge. Did you try to call your local dealership?
