No-start, backfire, CEL

As the title indicates, this morning I started the car to warm it up, then shut it off briefly. When restarting, the first crank attempt did nothing. Second attempt ended with a loud backfire. On the third time it started normally, but threw a CEL and "reduced engine power" message. So, I restarted one more time after waiting a minute or so, and it ran fine..however the CEL is still on after my 27 mile trip to work.

The symptoms lead me to believe it was related to a crank/cam position sensor. Until I get near a scanner though I am somewhat in the dark.

Thoughts from other SS owners?? I always get uneasy about problems that are "just one of those things"... I'd almost rather it be serious enough to need fixing than be something that is intermittent.

Also since it is a 2008 I still have a little bit remaining on a powertrain warranty, correct? I recall a 5 year/100,000 mile figure from my dealership days back in 2008.

Powertrain warranty is going to depend on the 1st original purchase date.

Hi AJL08SS,
So sorry to hear about the issue with your vehicle. At this time, I recommend taking your vehicle to your local Chevy dealer as soon as possible so it can be diagnosed. If you would like, you can private message me and I can look up your vehicle's warranty information for you. Please include your contact info, VIN, mileage and dealer name.

Thank you,
Sara

Thanks, Sara.

I actually just called a local dealer, and I'm good up to June 14th.

Since my extensive tool collection didn't include a scanner, I picked one up..

P0335, Crank Position Sensor circuit, as I suspected. I find it a little concerning that this just "happened". I left the code stored, and the CEL went off after the few driving cycles from today.

If I run into any more trouble with it, I'll bring it in to a local dealer.
