I run Royal Purple 5W-30 and a Purolator Premium Filter,
I change every 7k miles and rotate my tires at each oil change, much easier to remember both that way. I wouldn't imagine changing my oil under 5k miles these days with a synthetic, times have changed and so has technology, the 3k miles idea is outdated and such a waste of money.

I stopped by my Dealers and picked up 6 filters for $5.62 each. All had no boxes and were from a bulk shipment. If they are good enough for Chevy than they are good enough for me. Plus if I ever have a warranty issue than they can't use my using another brand against me.

Hi, while you are talking about oil filters. I have an 08 2.4 just changed to mobil 1 and a wix57082 oil filter. I noticed that the oil must be leaking down from oil filter as oil is sshowing over full till I start engine and then shut it off and check again I put in five quarts so I know its not over full. Anyone know whats wrong? Thanks Fred

When you change your oil and refill the crankcase, there is no oil in the filter until it runs a few seconds and pumps it into the filter. So, if you check your oil prior to running, the "extra" oil is in the crankcase. After running, slightly less than a quart will be in the lines/filter lowering the amount in the crankcase and thus showing the correct amount.

Does that make sense, or did I confuse you?

Thanks for the come back esmarkey, The oil reads good after I shut motor off but the next day it shows over full till I run it again and get the filter housing full. then i shows the right level??????? Fred. Should the filter housing leak down like that if not what is causing it.

sorry, I thought you meant right after you changed the oil.
My understanding is that there is a check valve that should keep this from happening. Not sure if it is in the filter itself or in the block.
Anyone else know this?
