So we've read briefly through some threads and have a couple of questions concerning the loss of power steering!

1) When you loose the power steering does it give you a DIC display (we didn't get one) .....

2) If it is covered under waranty which coverage would it be under, (we have 31,000 miles but are just past the 4 year old mark) .....

3) Was there ever a U.S. recall for this issue .....

It maybe a fuse issue but was getting dark out and had to park three cars in our single car driveway before it got to dark to see .....

I guess I can give you some answers in reverse order.

3. No U.S. recall campaign, and none likely until NHTSA receives enough complaints from owners, to file a complaint click the link below.....

2. Gonna have to consult with your dealer's service manager on that one if the motor is shot, GM has given service managers some latitude in making repairs outside of warranty coverage to engender "Goodwill" with customers.

1. Not necessarily, as I can recall some folks have lost the motor without any indication at all on the DIC, other folks have it light up like a Pinball machine. Two fuses to check, look at the fuse in position #19 in the passenger footwell fuse box, and the fuse in position #1 in the underhood box. Either could have blown on you.

Not sure but maybe a battery issue ..... The problem did happen as I was working on our other HHR and had our Panels rear hatch open and stereo on for about 1 1/2 hours. Enough juice to start it's just the steering was all manual! Need to check the fuses..... Thanks Mike .....
