Scraping noise when braking
They used to, I think they have changed to mostly beet juice. I was looking at the rotor, it doesn't look like it has ever turned. 1 rainy day would leave a few spots of surface rust .
I don't know why a professional would say those are good pads, from what I can see they are well into the groove. I guess some shops don't need easy money.

I was thinking the same thing.
It took some thought for me to understand this. My favorite shop does very good work at low prices in a working class community that mostly drives older cars. So of course they’re always trying to catch up with getting their customers back on the road so they don’t lose their jobs. So they tend to balk at doing stuff before absolutely necessary. But if you make an appointment a couple weeks in advance, it seems to provoke less anxiety.

Pads with less than1/16 inch of groove are worn out (period). The groove does more than gauge wear; it is there to help evacuate dust, gases and other crud. Any shop that charges $75 to look at them and doesn't at the least recommend replacement doesn't need income or is irresponsible/incompetent. Saving you a dollar at the expense of safety is not acceptable.
A decent flat rate mechanic can do front pads in 30 minutes. flat rate for 1 axle is about 2 hours including the "test drive/burnishing" that never gets done. And then sell some other work. Not even getting into the $104 MSRP for pads that cost $20.
Granted, there are still people that believe metal to metal isn't quite worn out. I have seen a few that the pads and backing plates had disappeared, and the complaint was "an new noise", the lack of metal scraping.

Mine is doing the same only while turning and braking, shop looked at all 4 corners and all are good. I havent looked at them myself yet but just started to wonder if those little retainers are installed? Ill try to get mine in the garage soon and see.... I still have a new set of ACDelco pads sitting.
