Now my head is hurting; what does the built-in diode do when you reverse it? I guess it doesn't matter as long as it blocks the bounce in one direction.

The diode is to stop back current to the pull in coil.
Yes the diode is directional.
I know it's another conspiracy. There is no diode in the circuit, only the propaganda wiring diagram to fool us.

There is a diode on the diagram on the relay, or something that looks like a diode. on the coil side.

Sorry the symbol for a diode looks like this:

That is a symbol for a fixed resistor. That's why it can be reversed and still work.

What is this symbol? I was assuming it is a diode in "consumer".

Dr. Loch the symbol in question on the relay is for a fixed resistor. A resistor like this can allow current in either direction.
If it was a Bidirectional Diode it would show your drawing, it does not.

So what is causing this person's problem to start with ?
