Dirt in camshaft solenoid?

If the code is P0011 or P0014 you can try cleaning the screens with your choice of oil solvents. Sometimes it works.
If it is P0010 or P0013 check wires first otherwise replace valves.

I believe through the oil pick up tube in the oil pan as well? should I look into the oil pump and oil pick up tube? How hard are those to get to?

its a p0014 code. It went away when I swapped the exhaust solenoid but seemed to pop back up a week later. Not sure if its because it got a little dirty again. But I will check them both in a week and keep cleaning them out.

I'm looking at the diagram FMG referred to, and it never before occurred to me that the junk on the screens could come from the phaser. Any seals inside those?

I think you should remove the valve cover and look for slack in the timing chain. My P0014 was just that.

This slack caused the phaser to be out just enough.
