Reason we chose this route is that we live in the heavy rust belt and didn't want to open a can of worms with brake lines and stuff.
On a bad note the engine we where going after at a local salvage for $550 turned out to be bad. So where still looking for a motor and may have found another from a local guy for $600 if I pull it.
130k miles. So not sure what direction we are going at this point. Wish us luck.
I will be tearing into the old motor just to see how bad it actually is.
the motor never got removed. I can't complain it was someone trying to help me. But why he told you it was out I have no idea. Sorry for the un-truthfull post.

With the intake off try and clean the back side of the intake valves.
Remove the internal PCV valve, add an external one and with an oil catch can.

When you pulled it out the top you said you removed the exhaust manifold and damper.
I'm going to guess it was the turbo and manifold ?
Not just the turbo.
Thanks

I don't believe he has pulled out the original engine yet. He stated that the "friend" of his had misspoke when saying the original engine was out.
The pics on the bottom show the donor engine and the work he has done to it. (i.e. the timing components)
The donor engine still has the intake and exhaust/turbo bolted up. Seen in the pics #4, #6.
Just pointing out details you may have missed.
