Right now I have the stock mids on an amp and they sound good.

I put these digital design 6.5"s in the door on the same power and they are no where near as loud.

Do I need to completely seal the open area that is left when you remove the stock door speakers? Do I need to completely seal the entire door?

I have the gain all the way down on the amps and always have. Maybe they need a bit more juice? I've never been a fan of turning the gain on mids/highs amps up. Always had the impression that would take away efficiency or quality.





As you can see, they are pretty beefy compared to stock mids...

 

What's the ohm rating of the new vs. old speakers ?

 

New are 4 ohm.

I'm pretty sure stock is 4 ohm as well. I doubt they would be 2 ohm...but then again I don't know how they wired up the tweeters with the front mids.

If you had the factory pioneer system with sub and amp in the cargo area then the doors are 2 ohm, so you get less output with the same power, but now you can probably set mid gain on the aftermarket amp.
Did you use adapters to fit round speakers to the teardrop shaped holes?
Can't really seal the doors completely, but automotive speakers are designed for open air anyways. However, using sound dampener material on inner and outer door surfaces helps quite a bit. Keeps the speakers moving air instead of metal.

 

I should have mentioned that I ran direct wires to the new tweeters and they are ran from a separate amp.

Front doors are on their own 4 channel, each one bridged on the amp. Tweeters on a separate 2 channel amp.

I know the stock mids are only about 25w rms or so? I figured the aftermarket 6.5"s would be louder, but apparently not.

I just drilled a few holes to mount the aftermarket 6.5"s in the doors. I didn't seal the mounting hole. Would that make a huge difference?

I have the 6 speaker stock system. No factory amps.

 

You should probably use adapters, the stock speakers are also sealed with foam to the interior panel. Without adapters there is a big gap between the speaker and interior panel that will lose sound. And you will need to crank up the amp to get more output.

Yes you do , get a jig saw " borrow one , buy one or have a neighbor cut a spacer ring out of plywood .
Make it look like this .... And bolt that bad boy right to it ... It will be nice and solid ..

Hey if you do not have access to either the materials or the saw . PM me your address and I will make you a pair and ship them to you ... for free . I have a template for them . will need a link to the manufacturer to get the diameter of the cut out for the speaker . You will be good to go . They WILL fit behind the factory door panel without any modification to the factory appearance to the door panel .
