Just to unbury the link to find out about your recall status without having to join anything or give any info other than make and VIN.

EXTRA FOB and KEY

Thanks Jay

They didn't charge me anything for the first replacement.

Here is a tip for those of you who want another FOB and/or another key.

Buy a FOB and key from ebay (Take the new key and have it cut by your hardware)
and when you get the new ignition they will program them at no charge.

I just got mine back a week ago. I took it in to repair some damaged spark plug threads (my doing) and they took advantage of it to order the recall parts as well. While it was there I was told about the second recall for the ignition lock cylinder. They gave me a rental for about a month.

They told me they don't have the parts..

They will write me, again, once they have them.

Perfect Timing and excellent treatment!

Last Friday the trusty 08 HHR refused to allow my wife to start up and drive away from the gas pump, an hour from home. As I set out on the road to save the day I called the Dealer for that area. The service department took the VIN and reported that the ignition was covered under the recall and they would send a wrecker right away. Then they informed me that the parts were on back order and it could take many weeks to get repaired. Before I had a stroke they continued to tell me that GM was paying for a rental. I explained that there is a 200 mile a day commute involved and they assured me that wasn't an issue. Even being a commercial vehicle they assured me this wasn't going to cost me a dime no matter how long it takes. They were really excellent to work with and from the the time I called to the time we finally headed home with a rental it was under two hours and completely stress free. So here is the only problem, we like the rental so much we don't want to give it back. I wonder if this recall is really just some new sales tactic.

Well, they did just announce "employee discounts" if you trade an affected vehicle in on a new GM. So, maybe.

Hey you all I work for a GM dealer and Guess what I have not recived my letter at all. Damn GM dealers LOL. Really now I just bought my car but I bet after all the hoopla is over( August or September) I'll get mine fixed too. I also thank GM for finding all of us who got our cars even used and they still found most of us. Thanks GM

Got all my letters X4, then in today's mail I got four letters telling me to expect letters on the recall. GM is trying, they really are, but I think the employees tasked with recall notifications are so overwhelmed it's not funny.
