GM Ignition Recall Extended to All HHR's 2006-2011 UPDATED!!!
and just so you know........
When an owner of a recalled ignition vehicle submits to the dealer, the dealer notifies GM PARTS (not the factory that makes the parts), generally on a weekly basis, accumulating a parts count and then notifying GM. GM PARTS on a monthly basis, then updates their count with the part manufacturer. So understand that your ignition need may not even reach the manufacturer for 5 weeks. Then understand, there is currently a back long of needed parts, so your part could conceivably be 3-4 months down the road.
GM Corporation is currently reviewing some procedures to expedite this process. But each of the notifications are difficult implementing on a daily basis, because of the constantly changing volume.
All the notifying is done electronically......kind of like ordering on line.
Well, as promised I will now announce that I got the postcard follow up to the first 2 letters from GM on the car that is now part of a bridge.
I also got the postcard on the 2011 that I currently have. Odd that I never got the first 2 letters for it, and that the GM recall site still says "parts not available".
Ho-hum, I guess I'll just have to be patient until I get a chance to bother the dealer.
I wonder how many of the notification letters and postcards got thrown in the trash with the junk mail. They look exactly like the other junk mail I get from the dealers trying to sell me stuff I don't want or need.

I got 2 letters from GM (April and May) and a post card today informing me of the need to get the recall done on my 2011 HHR as they hadn't seen in their info that it was performed. So went to my Chevy Dealer who said parts have to be ordered (like Snoopy says and donbrew) and no time limit given but they will call. I expect quite a wait. So far so good on the ignition switch but the wife says that once in awhile the chimes won't turn off. Ign cylinder/Switch must be close to failure.

Chimes can be activated by a number of things. Normal things like lights left on, to odd things like a turn signal left on too long or even coasting in neutral too long (std trans) can trigger the chime warning.
After three letters from GM and one post card from my Chevy dealer about the ignition switch recall, I called about the repair. They will order the parts which will take 4 to 6 weeks, then they will call me.
Doubtful that the ignition switch is the reason for the chimes staying on. That is not the type of failure that the ignition switch is producing. It's a case of a weak spring in the switch that "may" allow the switch to turn off unexpectedly.

As you stated the vehicle thinks the key is still in the ignition.....or at least in the car. I believe the "3 chimes" is an indicator the fob is left in the car. Are you sure you do not have a fob hidden in the car? If you purchased used, perhaps the previous owner had a hidden fob or lost one somewhere in the car.

I thought the car only identifies the "chipped" key.
