Made an appointment to bring in mine a couple weeks back. Took it in and later that day the service writer calls to say your car is ready. So the wife takes me in and drops me off. I see my 07 HHR sitting in the area where they put the completed cars. Go in and the service writer says its all done and took me into the cashier. She looks my number up and hands me a set of keys.
First thing I noticed the fob won't unlock my door so I thought I'll lock it and see what happens. I hear a horn beep down the lot. Stuck the key in the door, won't fit. Walked over to the other HHR and hit the key fob, doors unlock. OK, I says got the wrong keys, wrong again. They put my ignition lock into someone else's car. They also sent that info to GM with my name on it as completed.
Service writer can't figure out what went wrong. They had to order another ignition for my car. Got my fob this time and the doors unlock.
I didn't try the door lock with the key or the remote start, gee I hope they work when I go out to the shop tomorrow.
Your probably wondering how did I get a second ignition switch so fast, they are now robbing peter to pay Paul and also some of the new switches are defective, won't work at all at least that is what I was told by the very same service writer who messed up having my switch put into another car.

Went out today and checked the remote start and door key. Both work fine after the recall was completed.

We had the same problems on some cars and we just recut the same keys and problem solved. I think the key cutting machines are getting over worked and not cutting keys properly. On 1 car it took 3 time cutting keys but again problem solved. Just so every one knows key fobs don't change when keys are recut.

Enough about the recall I think everything is being done that can be done I feel safe on driving my HHR and still love it and would not take a loaner car, I think the switch recall has been talked to death, why not change to Whoppers favorite subject as when to change your oil a little more enjoyable???

I don't change the oil on mine. To hard to get underneath the HHR and the dealer sends out coupons all the time. Its worth it to me. I change the oil on my 3 Harley's but won't on the HHR.

How long does it take????

Hi All,

How long does it take for a dealer to get an ignition switch??? Mine has been in the list for almost a month... It took less time to get my molded mud flaps from Chevy....

TIA

Mine took 6 weeks

Called my dealer on May 9th. They called me today to say the parts are in. I take the car in tomorrow for the repair.

Six to 8 weeks is what I'm hearing. But if you read the threads dedicated to this recall topic you could find other answers. Some, not many, have had essentially immediate repair.

EDIT>>>>an article in my daily paper mentions they have 3 shifts producing the replacement parts and they have "about" 160,000 replaced. Not to bad but still have about 1 million to do.

2007 hhr

MY parts were ordered about 5 weeks before the actual work was done.

The GM dealer installed the switch while they were machining the rotors. It took about 2 hours.

I received two new keys.

I was very pleased with all the work done with regards to this issue.
Thank you Fernie GM dealership and GM customer service.
