GM Ignition Recall Extended to All HHR's 2006-2011 UPDATED!!!
HHR recall
My 2009 HHR key stuck in the switch about 4 weeks ago. I drove home and disconnected the battery. I emailed GM about the problem. The next morning a rep from the local dealership called. (Richmond, CA) He explained,"That the repair parts were not available and there was no space to store my car at the dealership. To keep my car at my residence until the parts arrived. He also told me that Enterprise Rental would contact me within the hour and they would provide me with a car". I am still waiting, with HHR in driveway. They gave me a Chevy Malibu while I wait. That is very positive response from GM.
Just wondering how long people are waiting for the parts to come in once they've notified their local dealership?
I stopped into my dealership 7 weeks ago and they said they needed to order the parts and they would notify me when they arrive... However that same dealership has sent me 3 notices via mail since i've been in that there's a recall on my car.. I called the other day and they were snooty that I called for an update on the part and I was reassured they will notify me when it comes in....

I just went by the other day and had the dealer order my parts. Just out of curiosity I ask them for a true answer to how long the wait would be.
The manager said 6-8 weeks,..... or longer. In other words, they don't exactly know how long either.
Doesn't bother me at all. I will continue to drive mine with the single key in the ignition until the parts come in.

2 months after I originally called (and as many notices), I decided to drop in. Well, they couldn't find where I had called (and I didn't get a name), so no parts had been ordered. Argh. I said now there is also a power steering motor recall. This time they had me fill out my name, etc and assured me the parts would get ordered. 3 weeks later they notified me that the ignition switch parts were in and I needed to schedule the replacement. I said I'd like to wait until the motor parts came in so it could all be done at one time (I live an hour away).
Now I wonder if that was a good idea. What if another customer needs the switch parts, so they use 'mine'. Then 'my' motor comes in, and we have to wait (again) for the ignition replacement, etc. It could take quite a while before it all comes together. Do you think they would give me the ignition parts to hold until the steering parts come in? Or is that even a good idea?

Parts were on order for almost 6 weeks. My SA called an informed me, last Friday, the parts were in. Took the car in this past Monday. Was in and out in an hour and 15 minutes. Both new keys function as intended and both remotes STILL work. They also washed and dried my car. I'm happy
During the wait, had a talk with the Commercial/Fleet Manager....who is a friend and also handles GM employee sales.... he just took possession of his 2014 3LT Vette. Gave me the "key" and let me take it for a spin
. Not bad....impressed with the additional 20 HP and fit and finish. Still thinking of a 2015. Probably be my last one.
