GM Ignition Recall Extended to All HHR's 2006-2011 UPDATED!!!
I have a 2011, and just got home from having the ignition cylinder replaced, and everything seems fine, except that I was curious and went to my driveway and tried to turn the ignition off with the car in drive. It was very easy to flip it to the accessory position. So I tried it again with the car in drive, foot off the brake, and rolling very slowly. Same thing, it would shut the engine off and flip to accessory.
Wasn't it supposed to make it harder to turn the cylinder off while the engine is running, when they replaced the cylinder? Maybe I just had a good one all along, so there is no difference, but just thought that I'd ask.

You need to read entire articles, not just the headlines. The "recall" has been widely published and goes into detail. You can even read it right here https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/gm-r...updated-49640/ in the thread that your original post should be in.
Don't Think the Dealer Did the Recall!!
I took my 2010 HHR in to the dealer to have the ignition switch and the ignition cylinder replaced on Monday. Picked the car up just before closing and was given two new keys on my original key fob. No problem.
Today for whatever reason, I compared my original keys to the new keys and they are exactly the same and yes, both old and new keys operate the car. I also noticed that the silver "bezel" around the opening for the key is scratched just like my original one. Now my understanding is that if the ignition cylinder has been replaced my original key will not operate the car and the silver bezel should be unblemished. Am I correct?
Thanks for any insight/ information as I am not that mechanically savvy!

Your Service Adviser was to request from you your two old keys so that they could dispose of them.
The ignition lock cylinder (the silver part you put your key into) should not have any marks. Should be brand new.
The new keys have a smaller hole to hang other rings off of them. Your old keys had a triangular shaped hole which was much larger. Less keys hanging on your key means less weight and that means less of a chance of the key moving without being turned by the operator.
The dealer cut your new keys according to your VIN so the new key should be totally identical to your old key. The new key should operate all the door locks.
The new and old keys should operate exactly the same way.
Hope this helps.

I just had a look at ours that had the switch replaced two weeks ago - the chrome piece that is visible that the key goes into, is marked as well - I suspect that piece is not replaced and is separate from the switch internals.
They redo the new cylinder to match the old one so old keys do work, otherwise they would need to do the door lock too. I had the cylinder done earlier under warranty and the chrome piece was new.
