Oil Change question.

So, we just bought a 2008 HHR LT with the 2.4 Engine. I changed the oil in it as soon as we got it. It currently has 107,000 miles on it, and it’s time to change the oil again.
The person we bought it from kept the oil changed regularly. They had receipts from any maintenance done on the car.
But, what I had noticed, is that the car burns a lot of oil. Since the last change, we’ve had to add 2-3 Quarts.
The car has always used conventional oil. And I’m trying to figure out if I need to switch to either a Full Synthetic or a High Milage Oil.
Just trying to see if any can get any advice or any pointers from someone who has had this issue.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the site, changing to synthetic might burn more oil. Run a treatment of Seafoam

Use oil that has DEXOS on the label, they are either full or semi synthetic. 5W30. Avoid "High Mileage" oil it tends to destroy seals if you ever forget to use it again.

Any noticeable oil leaks or smoke from the exhaust?

Synthetic oil is a much more advanced product and better over the life of the oil between changes.

I am sure you can find some YouTube tests comparing the two.

Haven’t found any leaks, no oil on the ground either.
And I’ve not notice any smoke from the exhaust.

Yeah, I’ve been doing quite a lot of research on the issue. And I’ve seen some pretty mixed results. Mostly noticed that Synthetic can make small issues seem bigger. Found some forums where someone said they still had the burning oil after switching to Synthetic, too.

Thanks! I don’t know much on the High Mileage oils. I’ve done a bit of research on them, and everyone seems to say the same. They swell your seals and tighten everything up, but if you go back it could lead to worse issues.
thanks for the help!

Read this,

https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/2-2l...ormance-58332/

check for oil in the throttle body , it might be getting sucked into the intake manifold and pooling
