Problems/Service/RepairsIf you have a problem with your HHR, want a tip on repairing or performing a particular service to you HHR here is the place to post!
Hey all thanks so much for your time viewing this thread. I was driving my hhr into town, I stopped at a Dairy Queen and the car started to run terribly right after we left. Shifting gears became very loud and rough (automatic transmission), it had almost no power. Luckily it got me home. Then the next day I could not get it to crank for a couple days. Than it started up fine ran great for a few miles, than proceeded back to the aforementioned problems. Side notes of things I noticed the car would run great, and when it wouldn’t there was a lock icon showing up on dashboard. Have some pictures of codes it was throwing. Any leads greatly appreciated.
Would like to add I have not been able to start it for a few months now, and also it will no longer allow for scanning of codes. So these codes were from a while ago when it could be scanned
Probably the battery is dead and was dying when all this happened
have you tried installing a new battery?
replaced battery with multiple new batteries, about 3 different ones. Replacement of new battery would cause for car to start, but the next day it would no longer start again.
current battery is charged and new.
Also forgot to mention the speedometer guages go bezerk anytime it does run.
I went to the link, what exactly would you recommend I should be doing, I have very limited understanding of vehicles, and this car is a lost cause at dealerships / mechanics. All they want to do is throw parts at it. Just take the fuse box out and put it back on?
Check for loose relays , fuses , tighten the bolts that hold the halves together. You could also inspect the ground wire in the spare tire area is it clean and tight? The maxi fuse back there also!
Look at the battery terminals they can crack over time.
You don’t need to go to a dealership or mechanic, you just need a flashlight and a small adjustable wrench . Maybe a wire brush if you see corrosion.
Unless you need warranty or recall work there is absolutely NO reason to need a dealership mechanic. (PERIOD)
They slept through the same classes as the guy down the street did.
