Well, it's been more than 2 months and still no issue with surging after I soldered the wires. Even after washing the engine down twice, I still have had no issues.

Being a shopper for an SS, I have read these post with great interest.
I have used this style( http://www.connectorsupply.com/catal...lant-p-83.html ) heatshrink on motorcycle and automotive applications.

It has an adhesive sealer inside to give a water tight seal.

Concerning solder, I hope you can get some old resin core tin/lead solder for your repair.
There is a new lead free solder showing up that takes a higher melt temp, amd is contrary to use.

I have a newbie question--how much does this kit cost ?

Does anybody in New Jersey know where I can get the wires properly soldered?

For 3 months last year I've had the same surging problem, and my local dealer rewired both sensors and the problem was solved. However, last week, I lost my turbo pressure (turbo only boost to 5psi and makes some unusual sound) like 2 times, I suspect they did a horrible job. I would hate to go back to the dealer for the 8th time for the same problem and have the problem come back again a couple of months later.
