Hello GM Customer Care
I have a 2007 Chevy HHR which falls into the ignition recall.
VIN#: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I called Romeo Chevrolet in Kingston NY and Potamkin Chevrolet in Manhattan, neither have "the fix" in shop from GM.
No one from dealers are responding to me on the car rental alternative till the car/truck is fixed. Do I have to crash first?
I have a house and an apartment in either location, so either dealer will do for the Recall Fix.
But is there anyone out there in GM-Land?
Where does GM stand on fixing or at least checking my vehicle ?

I see that there has been an answer above for your question. Although this is accurate, I would be happy to discuss this with you in a private message. Let me know, and I can certainly help!

Customer Service through here contacted my local dealership and they arranged for me to have a rental vehicle while waiting on parts at their expense. I'm in a 2012 Malibu for now. The guy at Avis told me he is nearly out of cars due to this.
I'll likely take a good hard look at a few GM vehicles when I decide to buy again. I get a GM supplier discount because of the company I work for, and getting this taken care of makes me want to stick with GM for my next car.

Why can't people just read what GM has put out there? It's odd that so many folks are stating that they got the letter and that they did a search, then they ask what the letter and press release says.
GM is the AUTHORITY not an unrelated website like this one. Anything you read on this site should be taken as unreliable!
to the forum hhrlady. You can click this link below and follow the steps to input your VIN and check the status of your vehicle in regards to the recall.

You will eventually receive a letter from GM as they track down HHR's that may be on their second, third, or fouth owners.
You can always touch base with your local Chevy dealer too.
The important thing is not to panic, and only have the ignition key and keyfob on the keyring.
Keep your other keys on a seperate keychain to avoid the remote possibility of your vehicle shutting itself off at an inopportune moment.
"King".....
I suspect, and I suspect only, the models that GM has experienced the most problems with will be done with immediacy.....probably in groups. Those that had very little experienced will be done afterward. Now understand, I am not categorizing by year, necessarily. The recall could be done by VIN in certain years....as an example. But as it stands now, they all will get done.
Additionally, those that have not received The Letter or are not in the data base, may be recognized later. In an effort to not load and panic the system the notification will more than likely be done in groups.
JMO....but I remember contributing to a few of this type of recall previously and that is how it was handled. New company, new CEO and essentially new management, so anything can happen.

Regardless, the previous statement about triage recall of classes of cars is complete bull.
So....went to the GM Site yesterday to enter my VIN (but the site was not working). Got on live chat with GM and the customer service person asked for my VIN. I gave it to her and she said, indeed, my car was on Recall. I took it into my local Chevy dealer because I watch (and drive) my grandchildren and their parents are a bit concerned, we are also taking a road trip in May. The dealership said my 2008 HHR was not on recall. Any 2008 HHR owners get a letter? Getting 2 different answers doesn't help me much (GM vs dealership). Thanks for replying :)
I bought my 2009 HHR SS in June of 2009.
I got a recall letter from Chevrolet about a year after I bought stating that they needed to replace the ignition switch.
I had them replace it and all was well.
I entered my VIN on the Chevrolet portal and said that there were no recalls on my vehicle.
So I guess I got the new "improved" ignition switch installed in 2010.
Confusing...

Ignition switch and ignition key cylinder are 2 different parts(although they are connected).
You will still need the ignition switch replaced.
It appears that GM's portal is not up to date on which vehicles are to be recalled. Understandable because I'm sure it will take time for them to do a complete update that involves millions of vehicles.
Just be patient.
