GM Ignition Recall Extended to All HHR's 2006-2011 UPDATED!!!
Has anybody noticed that GM is so disappointed in the response to the ignition recall that they are now offering $50 (maybe it was $25) gift cards at various retailers to owners to get 'er done. They are claiming less than 40% have had it done.
Sounds like 843de is in for a $300 bonus this year!

They finally got back to me today and said I could leave my car and put the keys in the drop box. I told him I need to get the loaner car and he said he didn't think they had one. I have the Email from the appointment specifying a loaner car that I forwarded to him.
I fully expect that they won't have a loaner car when I take it in tomorrow morning. Things could get ugly!
I suspect that might be the case for many of us.
Mine was done before I could finish the free cup of coffee on a Saturday morning. No inconvenience but for waking up on Saturday morning at the same time I wake up every other day.
BTW, any GM dealer can do the job. I had mine done at Buick.
Would you drive around with no windshield if it got busted, because it is too much trouble to sit for an hour?

You posted an observation and I offered input from a legitimate Chevy owner regarding a greater than 60% lack of response to the recall campaign. With that kind of response rate, many of us obviously have various reasons for not doing so.
I am glad it went smoothly for you.
Don06's experiences seem rather off-putting to me.

I'm willing to chalk it up to a bad day on teh intarwebz on my end. Sometimes it's just too easy to read things the wrong way if we're already irritated about something.
Has GM offered any insights or thoughts on the low response rate, or is this just another "won't worry about it until it's a problem" issue? Less than 40% does seem pretty low.

Not too likely Don, like I said in my PM the other day, my local Chevy dealership was knocked down to start fresh. And by the looks of it when I cruised by on Friday afternoon, they won't be capable of much more than Quick-Lubes anytime soon.
As hard as it is to believe; most people don't pay attention to the news or to notices in the mail!
I think 40% response is high. Watch a Honda dealership, the airbag recall can actually cause death, yet they still have time to do BGproducts upselling in the service department.

$25 reward
I just got a notice from GM that if I get my ign. swith recall done, they would give me a $25 gift cert. I have been thinking I would not get the switch done on my 2008 panel because I spent about $350 worth of dash decals all over the inside of my panel. The ign switch cylinder in my car has a rosewood panel cover around the cylinder and I am worried that they will damage the rosewood covering and then I will have to buy another $350 kit to repair their work. Has anybody else that didn't get their switch done get a reward notice?

I live outside of a metro area with a population of around 90,000 and there is only one GM dealer in a 20 mile radius where there used to be 5. GM dropped Pontiac and Oldsmobile so those dealers closed. The Cadillac dealer wouldn't build a new building and lost the franchise. The Buick and GMC truck dealer figured that GM would be dropping Buick and GMC trucks very soon and dropped both of those lines to sell Volkswagen, Audi and Hyundai. GM shut down the smaller of the 2 Chevrolet dealers. Now the larger Chevrolet dealer is also the Cadillac, Buick and GMC dealer working out of the same building and shop space. GM also closed 5 small town dealers in a 50 mile radius so there really is no choice.
It can't be done on a Saturday morning because their shop is only open from 8am to 4:30 pm on weekdays. They don't want to pay their mechanics a decent wage or overtime so they can't find and keep help.
I took my car in on Friday morning and, as expected, they did not have a loaner vehicle available. They did have a shuttle there that took me to work right away. At 11:00 they called and said it was ready and asked when I wanted to be picked up. I told them as soon as possible and to call me when the shuttle got close. They called and said he would be there in 10 minutes so I left what I was doing, punched out and waited at the curb for 20 minutes before he got there. They had the car outside and had to have someone go get it even though they knew I was coming and there was lots of room in the service reception aisle where I had to sign the paperwork. It wasn't bad but it could have been better.
