Waited over 5 weeks for my Ign parts.. Then parts came in just over a week ago, so they have informed me.. I have to remember to make an appt to git-r-done.

Snoopy, nice to have good connections.. My dealer only let me drive a mild camaro..

I had contacted my local SoCal dealer concerning my power steering about 6 weeks ago, at which time they took my info to order replacement parts for my ingnition. They called last tuesday, and I made an appt. for thursday ay 8:45am. They gave me a ride back home, and called at 12:30 to say it was complete. They picked me up at home, and I found that they installed a new ignition cylinder, and learned two new keys. (You need to return your old keys.) Even though it wasn't broke - they fixed it.
Now, I have to wait until the EPS parts arrive. Some days it works fine all day, others not so much! 10k miles so far fighting the wheel.

I called for an appointment and was told a couple of weeks. Three days later they said the parts were in. They did the repair, but the new keys would not work in the door lock. The dealer said the door lock cylinder was worn. (?) I bought the HHR new and have used the key to open the door maybe 10 times, if that, in my eight years of ownership. The dealer had to order a new door lock cylinder ( $50+), then charge me $140+ to replace the door lock cylinder.

Yeah, that happened back in June or so. Hate to say it - but on the surface it looks like you were suckered. If it was hardly used, how could it wear out - more than likely they did not match the new keys to the existing VIN, or the keys were slightly off-cut.

Did you get a chance to compare the cut of the new keys to the old ones?

Sounds like they gave you somebody else's key. This could be a problem later on account of the VIN is matched to the key, not to mention they stold your money. I'd definetly talk to the service manager.

Initially I had an old key and new key and by my eyes, they looked different. I just gave them a negative review about the job they did. But once they were all done, they took the old keys.

These are real issues. Please follow up with the Service Manager.
You will no longer be able to order a new key using your VIN. The other guy is going to get ripped off, it is possible that EVERYONE on the list is now getting the wrong key cylinders.

If the old key worked, the new key, if cut correctly should have too. If the old and the new keys looked different, they didn't do the ignition swap the way they were supposed to, which was to re-pin the new cylinder to match the old keys. Then the new keys would have worked just fine in the door. I would have asked to see the 'worn' parts in the door lock cylinder.

I'd have been on the phone to GM. If the old key worked and the new one didn't they have the wrong new keys. If they have to change the lock it should have been at their expense.

I haven't heard any more from the dealer on my parts. It's just over a month so I probably have a few more weeks.

The dealership called me on Friday to get my car in on Monday. The madness ends now.
